Hi. Im just getting into DNS. I know im a newbee and most people like to point fingers and laugh at the newbee so feel free to at this moment.....ok times up. The reason I am posting is because I would honestly like to learn more about BIND. My first question for you guys is if I started running my dedicated DNS server is there any type of licensing at all required to run it for other purposes then personal networking use such as using it to commercially register domain names.
I would apretiate any responce. If this looks like a dumb question then please dont harras me..Like i said im a newbee so just as I sounded stupid trying to say momma when I was just a baby i may now sound dumb asking newbee questions. so work with me here.

Ive looked into it a little more and the registration of names needs to go through Internic as some kind of commision deal so ill look into that but thank you.

Do you run BIND on Linux or Win NT/2000?
I have BIND i can run BIND but i would like to know your opinions on weather its smarter to run a dedicated DNS on Linux or Win NT/2000. I also have both OS's. Thank You.

...I just have a replication relationship with the primary DNS server for my DNS server. So I have no idea what any of you are talking about cause mine does everything for me, and all I have to do is click replicate and it's done.

i have a fedora core 2 server with bind and it is the BEST (you may have some problems with RNDC connections being refused at first but that is easy to fix):D

Had Bind 9 on my server for a few months...its great but every so often it seems too loose its way and cause and error but luckily i hooked it up to auto restart on such events, but can be annoying looking at my error logs sometimes. Redhat 9 box :D
