need domain help

I need info! I am trying to setup a domain for my home network (just because I want to try it) and everything I keep reading says I have to register and .... I don't want a domain to host a website or anything. I just want to play with setting up a server that will host all of my music, videos, etc. Any ideas? Am I barking up the wrong tree? I would appreciate any input. Thanks, Ryan.

I have my own domain at home, I have 2 windows 2003 servers, one 2000 adv server and a redhat server, all for different things, but anyway.

Your going to atleast need one server to help you along the road to getting your own homebased domain.

I use windows servers because, well I know windows! lol.... you can use anything windows NT SERVER up, and it can become your domain server, windows 2000 adv server can become and active domain server, if you wanted it to, let us know what you have got in the way of servers and or software! thanks
