Hi, Im new to dedicated servers.
Right now I知 sharing a server with gameservers.com who is terrible.
So I致e wanted to build a server and connect it to a powerful connection. I looked every where and I think I found my solution. Building my own 1U Rack server and sending it to a Data Center.
So on a college budget I知 trying to build a server. I知 going to buy everything from newegg.
1U Rack:
TYAN KGT20-500S4H 19 inch 1U Rack with 500 Watt PSU $284.99
CPUS:
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz LGA 775 $180
or
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz Socket AM2 $170
Im strongly leaning on the Intel side even know I知 an AMD fanboy. I知 assuming the E4300 is the P-rating? IF so the Intel is more powerful.
Memory:
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2x1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 $157
(No ECC, Unbuffered)
Right now I can get the 1U Rack, 2 GB of memory, E4300, Asus Mobo and a 80gb SATA(1.5) 7200, for aprox. $720 dollars.
Then add in the $50 data center charges a month and I think I have a sweet source server to run my sourceforts on. I hope I can run two servers off this machine.
I think I have a sweet mashine planed out, anything over $720 dollars is going to be to much as I am a college student. Does this sound like sturdy and powerful rig.
